Overview:
Estate-wide installation of secure MultiSteel gate and fencing systems
Designed to fit non-standard ground conditions and structural overhangs
Zero exposed mechanical components for tamper resistance
Robust enough for high-footfall housing environments
Complete gate system upgrade across Blenheim Gardens Estate
Estate-wide communal security doors designed, manufactured and installed by MultiSteel. Blenheim Gardens Estate in the London Borough of Lambeth is a large-scale, low-rise housing development designed around communal spaces and pedestrian walkways. While the layout encouraged open access and visibility, it also presented challenges—particularly in areas where stairwells led directly onto the street without secure boundaries.
The strategic challenge
Without gated enclosures or access control systems in place, staircases remained vulnerable to unauthorised use. Repeated incidents of nuisance behaviour and security breaches raised growing concern among residents and Lambeth Council—prompting the need for a durable, estate-wide solution.
Given the scale of the estate and the architectural importance of its design, any upgrades had to work in harmony with the original structure—delivering high performance without disrupting the visual intent or flow of the pedestrian environment.
This was more than a standard door upgrade—it was a large-scale, multi-block project involving the design, fabrication, and installation of communal security doors, steel gates, and integrated access control systems. The scope required precision-engineered enclosures across varied elevations, carefully adapted to accommodate uneven ground, multiple height transitions, and prominent locations bordering public footpaths.
The MultiSteel approach
MultiSteel was appointed to design, fabricate, and install a series of bespoke steel gate systems across the entire Blenheim Gardens Estate—each engineered to secure communal stairwells while respecting the modernist integrity of the original scheme.
Manufactured at our North London facility, every component was made-to-measure to meet the specific constraints of each site. We provided a robust, visually cohesive solution that improved safety without compromising architectural form.
Where required, additional protective barriers were introduced to reduce risk around elevated or cantilevered staircases. Every detail, from hinge geometry to mesh cladding, was carefully considered to maintain visibility, strength, and long-term durability.
This project reflects the full scope of MultiSteel’s capabilities—not just in fabrication, but in complex, site-specific security design and coordinated delivery. From concept to completion, the Blenheim Gardens installation demanded technical precision, logistical expertise, and aesthetic sensitivity across a live, occupied housing estate.
Working closely with partners and stakeholders, MultiSteel developed a phased approach to minimise disruption while ensuring high-quality execution. Each system was engineered to perform long-term in a high-footfall, high-risk environment—combining communal stairwell security doors, full-height enclosures, and integrated access technology to ensure resident safety and entry control.
By delivering the full lifecycle of the project—design, manufacture, and installation—MultiSteel provided a unified, accountable solution that has enhanced safety, improved resident peace of mind, and added lasting value to one of Lambeth’s most recognisable housing estates.
